Prisoners go on rampage in Kaduna, 2 die

The Kaduna Central Prison in the early hours of Tuesday.

KADUNA — Inmates of Kaduna Prisons, Tuesday, went on the rampage which claimed the lives of two of them, while two prison officials were injured in the fracas.

Two hundred Policemen have, as a result, been mobilised to Kaduna to help quell the riot.

According to the Chief Press Secretary of the Nigerian Prisons Service, Mr Kayode Odeyemi, the policemen and other paramilitary officers were drafted to the prisons to prevent inmates from escaping.

He said, “as at the time the Comptroller-General of Prisons, Mr Olushola Ogundipe, left the scene, no inmate escaped and as I am talking  to you now all the forces are there to ensure that no inmate escapes from the prison.

“I can confirm that two inmates died and two of our men were injured though they were taken to the hospital immediately for treatment.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, also confirmed that 200 policemen had been draf-ted to Kaduna Prisons to help restore order.
