The Executive Director, Ondo State Football Agency, Mike Idoko is one of the few sports administrators who has literarily travelled the length and breadth of this country, discovering, imparting knowledge to upcoming players and helping clubs to realize their dreams.
The former Warri Wolves manager, who has been given a fresh mandate by Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko to overhaul football in the state, took a good look at the on-going Globacom Premier League and summed that they need three to four more games for him to say if they would at the end of the season emerge winners or not.
Idoko is happy that his wards- Sunshine Stars of Akure, are enjoying a good run in the season, especially when compared to other seasons, but he was quick to add that they are still far from lifting the trophy.
“I believe it’s too early for anyone to beat his chest that they have won the league. Anyone who holds that view must be deceiving himself. The season is still very open and it will take the next three or four games for any club to say they have the trophy in their bag. For Sunshine Stars, everyone is happy with the performance of the team this season.
The Akure based side have truly established themselves as one of the serious contenders for the trophy and a slip by any of the other contenders may see the highly motivated Akure side springing a surpriseâ€, Idoko said.
Sunshine are currently sixth on the table with a bright prospect of improving their standing and Idoko also firmly believes that with the prompt payment of players’ entitlements and welfare packages, the side will be spurred to give their best and ensure that they finish strong in the league.
