They were best of friends not too long ago. They ate and drank together and the going was good until circumstance drove a wedge between their friendship.
Recent developments between Turai Yar’Adua and wife of the Acting President, Dame Patience Jonathan, showed that both are no more friends like they used to. The reason for this is not far fetched. The rising profile of Dame Patience after her husband became the acting president resulted in the dwindling influence of her friend, Turai, particularly after the sacking of the cabinet.
We gathered that this was mainly the reason the acting president who envisaged this trend, barred his wife from public functions in the capacity of the first lady. But this was not enough to preserve their relationship. The issue became more complicated when Patience Jonathan allegedly visited her friend recently but was turned back. We learnt that Turai has shunned several opportunities to restore their friendship.
Some rather say she has more problems to contend with than the frivolities of who holds sway as first lady.
Muhammed Abacha relocates to Rimi’s house
…Rimi’s political camp in disarray
One of those affected by the death of the 2003 Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant, Abubakar Rimi, is Muhammed Abacha, eldest surviving son of the late head of state, Gen Sanni Abacha. Muhammad has declared his interest in the governorship ticket of the state under the platform of PDP.
The late Rimi had provided reasonable support for the ambition of the young Abacha. We gathered that in Kano, Abacha’s rising political profile was due mainly to the support given to him by the late Rimi.
Right now, the gist is that the governorship hopeful of Kano state has relocated to the house of Rimi shortly after the demise of the Kano politician. We gathered that he is always on ground to receive sympathisers as a close political god-son. Sources hinted that the death of Rimi can affect his chances of picking the ticket under the party as there are other groups within the party who also want to have their way. But we gathered that he is currently strategising, not only to properly position himself for the ticket but also to get wider acceptance for the plum job.
Sources close to him hinted that Rimi’s group in PDP is now in disarray as there is no clear cut leader to confront the much stronger force of Kwakwaso’s group.
