Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is returning to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to join the leadership of the party to restore democratic values, deepen the political process and strengthen the base of the party, according to his group.
Also, the former vice president has admonished all his supporters and followers to shun the bitterness and bickering of the past and focus on the need to build a better political party.
In addition, Atiku has made it clear to all his associates and supporters going back to the PDP not to engage in any politics of attrition with their former colleagues in the now moribund mega party.
The former vice president, speaking through his Media Adviser, Mallam Garba Shehu, said, “What we want to do is to get back into the PDP and deepen the political process with a view to building a better nation.
“Our mission in PDP is not to go in there and pick quarrels or fight with anybody but to go in there with a profound sense of humility and work together with other stakeholders in the party.
“It is natural that since we left the PDP, the political space we occupied would have been filled by some other personalities and interests. This is natural. It is also natural that there may be anxiety in the air.
“But what all these signal is the beginning of new and better things for the polity. And whereas some people have started saying all sorts of things like a presidential ambition or that our return to the party would serve as a counter force, I want to make it clear that this is not correct in material details.
“Our position is clear and it has been made clear to our people that even those with whom the mega party deal could not work are not to be derided. “Our mission in PDP is to work with all and sundry as well as ensuring that the spirit of every vote counting and every member accorded his due rights and privileges is upheld at all timesâ€
