Olu of Warri celebrates 23rd anniversary

WARRI — THE 23rdCoronation anniversary (Oyo-Ekoro) of His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse II, The Olu of Warri, commences today, 28 April through May 2.

Itsekiri communities and societies at home and in Diaspora as well as friends and well wishers are expected to join in the celebration.

According to a press statement, signed by the Chairman, Coronation Anniversary Planning Committee, Ojoye (Dr.) Emmanuel A. Tetsola (JP.), The Oluebajaje of Warri Kingdom, the daily events will begin today as Praise Day, while tomorrow, 29 April, is the anniversary lecture to be delivered by Dr. Dere Awosika, NP1, Abuja.

Health Day, free medical treatment of ailments, eye and dental care, free eyeglasses, will be followed with traditional dances and paying of homage.

According to the statement, on Saturday, 1 May, there will be Culture Day, and arts and crafts exhibition. Traditional dances, fashion parade and exhibition of Itsekiri traditional dishes will follow, and His Majesty will address the nation.

It said on Sunday, 2 May, there would be Coronation Anniversary Thanksgiving Service, as the events, which would hold at the palace (Aghofen), will feature the rich culture of Itsekiri people.
