Ohakim’s wife did not visit London – Imo govt

By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—Imo State Government has said that the Governor’s wife, Mrs. Chioma Ohakim, last visited London in September 2009, as a private citizen and never addressed anybody or group in London this year on any national issue.

The Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to Imo State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Angela Nkwo-Akpolu, who made the clarification during a press conference in Owerri, also said that this was contrary to the story posted on the internet by a group that calls itself “Imo Concerned Citizens in London.”

After reading out what the group called Mrs. Ohakim’s sins, the CPS also stated that “the allegations leveled at the Governor’s wife are false, baseless and intended to simply incite the wife of the Acting President, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan, against Mrs. Ohakim and the good people of Imo State.”

She said that “Mrs. Ohakim was only in London in September 2009 on a private visit when President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua was still in office and carrying out his duties as the President of Nigeria.”

In the words of the CPS: “It may interest Imo Concerned Citizens to know that Mrs. Chioma Ohakim has never addressed any group, including Imo State citizens either in the United Kingdom or any other part of the world since her husband became the Governor of Imo State from May 2007 till date.”

Continuing, Mrs. Nkwo-Akpolu wondered why people who claim to be interested in the upliftment of the state and her people will fabricate such inciting comments to cause disaffection between the Acting President’s wife and her boss.
