Obasanjo to Ohakim: Don’t mind detractors

By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has asked the Imo State Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, not to be distracted by criticisms from the opposition, because he is doing very well as Governor.

Speaking at Sam Mbakwe Cargo International Airport, Owerri, where he was received by the Governor, Obasanjo disclosed that “Governor Ohakim is one of the Governors, who have made me proud, after supporting him to lead his people.”

“You are doing very well. People must be envious of you, so continue with what you are doing for your people. I am proud of you,” the former President said.

Obasanjo told Ohakim that if some people can go about saying that he, Obasanjo, did nothing for Nigeria after eight years, why would he bother just after three years in office.

“Don’t mind detractors. If they say I did nothing after eight years, so what about you who is just three years in office,” he said.

He described Ohakim as not only a good fellow, but a man who has not disappointed those who contributed in making him Governor, by the people-oriented policies he has delivered to his people.

Chief Obasanjo made it clear that he supports Governor Ohakim at all times, because he is appreciative and loves his people, and will continue to lead his people.
