NSE value rises by N56bn

Investors continue to enjoy significant improvement on their investments on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, as the value of listed equities appreciated, Monday, by N55.57 billion.

Specifically, the market capitalisation, representing equities’ value, appreciated by 0.83 per cent to close at N6.755 trillion from N6.699 trillion at which it opened the week.

The All-share index garnered 229.75 basis points to close at 27,929.86 points from 27,700.11 points at which it opened.
Nestle Nigeria Plc recorded the most share price, rising by N14.18 to close at N297.78 per share, Total Nigeria Plc followed with a gain of N7.60 to close at N159.75 per share and Guinness Nigeria Plc garnered N7.00 to close at N147.12 per share.

Other share price gainers include: Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc N5.93, Oando Plc N5.00, Benue Cement Company Plc N3.00, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc N2.19, Lafarge Cement WAPCO Plc N2.09, Nigerian Breweries Plc N2.00, African Petroleum Plc N1.96 among others.

On the contrary, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc recorded the most share price loss, dropping by N1.28 to close at N24.47 per share, Unilever Nigeria Plc followed with a loss of N1.19 to close at N27.25 per share and UAC Property Development Company Plc shed N0.99 to close at N25.01 per share.

Other share price losers include: First Bank of Nigeria Plc N0.89, Beta Glass Company Plc N0.82, Alumaco Plc N0.47, Ecobank Nigeria Plc N0.21, Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc N0.21, Poly Products Plc N0.20, Nigerian Bag Manufacturing Company Plc N0.19 among others.

Equity trading appreciated by 42.47 per cent, as a turnover of 932.6 million shares valued at N5.99 billion was recorded in 15,310 deals, in contrast to Friday’s turnover of 654.56 million shares valued at N5.5 billion in 10,592 deals.

Insurance shares were the most patronised on the sectorial analysis, as transactions in the sub-sector accounted for 45.16 per cent of the market turnover, with 421.4 million shares valued at N431.82 million in 6,115 deals.

AIICO Insurance Plc enjoyed the most patronage in the sub-sector, trading 145.38 million shares valued at N236.96 million in 5,224 deals, followed by Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc with the exchange of 98.89 million shares valued at N57.38 million in 129 deals and Lasaco Assurance Plc recorded 64.11 million shares valued at N36.71 million in 147 deals.

The Banking sub-sector followed on the sectorial analysis, accounting for 30.33 per cent of the market turnover, 282.85 million shares valued at N3.06 billion in 4,661 deals.

Zenith Bank Plc recorded the most transaction in the sub-sector, trading 56.02 million shares valued at N1.08 billion in 599 deals, United Bank for Africa Plc followed with the exchange of 27.69 million shares valued at N463.96 million in 312 deals and Fidelity Bank Plc recorded 20.4 million shares valued at N66.9 million in 248 deals.
