No report on alleged kidnap of two Germans – Police

By Anayo Okoli

Umuahia—ABIA State Police Command says that there is no official report yet from any of its divisions on the reported kidnapping of two Germans in Ukwa East Local Government Area of the state, last weekend.

It was reported that two Germans were kidnapped in Azumini, a tourist community of Abia State, where they were said to have gone for picnic. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.

The Germans were said to have come from Port Harcourt, allegedly with two girls but without any police escort as was the usual practice for white people that usually come to the area to relax.

Though the news had been making the rounds both in the state and outside the state, the state police command said that it had not received any formal report on the incident so far.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Ali Okechukwu, there has not been any formal report made in any of its divisions on the incident.

Okechukwu said that inquiries made from the Divisional Police Office, DPO, in Ukwa East also indicated that no report was made with the division.

Okechukwu said, however, that information pieced together in the area has it that the Germans came to Azumini without police escort, an unusual situation as the white people who usually visit the place always come with police escort.

It was learnt that when their vehicle was attacked by the hoodlums, the two Germans were kidnapped while the two ladies said to be with them and the driver of the jeep, with which they came, ran into the bush.

The ladies and the driver were, however, said to have come out from the bush later and drove away.
