By Kingsley Omonobi

ABUJA—Barely 48 hours after Delta State governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan expressed disgust about the dangerous manner in which convoy drivers of government officials and even some state governors risk their lives, as well as those of other road users, Police Affairs Minister, Adamu Maina Waziri has cautioned against the use of policemen by convoys to intimidate and harass other road users by blocking the road and preventing them from overtaking.

He said, the act, apart from promoting negative perception of the police, also leads to accidents in many cases thereby exposing both motorists and other road users to preventable consequences.

Maina disclosed that one of the major problems of the Nigeria Police Force was that of its image and perception by the public.

He therefore advised policemen attached to such convoys to respect the rights of other road users, noting that other road users had as much rights to be respected rather than being intimidated by law enforcement agents .

Consequently, he appealed to government officials and members of the public who have the privilege of having policemen attached to their convoys to use them with dignity and decorum in order to make them community and environment friendly.
