GOVERNOR Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State Tuesday directed all the ministries, parastatals and agencies in the state to absorb every corp member posted to the state by the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Alhaji Yekini Olanipekun said this in Akure while addressing the Corp members posted to the ministry.
Olanipekun equally noted that the state government has commenced the rehabilitation of the infrastructures in the Orientation Camp, located in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North East local government area of the state.
Dr Mimiko’s directive was coming on the heels of the state government announcement that allowance of the Corps members posted to the state be increased from N1.400 to N5, 000 in order to enhance their efficiency and make their stay in the state pleasurable.
The Commissioner assured the Corps members posted to the state that they would not be rejected in their primary assignment as the government has directed government agencies and private sectors operating in the state not to reject Corps members posted to them.
Olanipekun also assured them of their safety wherever they are posted.
He said those who distinguished themselves during the service year might be considered for permanent employment.
The Commissioner advised the members to integrate themselves with the communities, as well as identify with the problems and aspirations of the host communities.
He added that they should make sure their host communities benefit from their wealth of experience.
“I want to remind you that as compatriots in service, each of you is a member of this organised society called Nigeria. Each of us must benefit from its existence, law and order. You must therefore, be ready at all times to accept the verdict of its institutions.â€
Olanipekun said it is imperative that Corp members should not isolate themselves from the overall objectives of the founding fathers of the NYSC scheme. He added that the Corp members should endeavour to contribute to government’s effort at restructuring the economic, political and social life of the nation.
