A three-years old is feared dead and four others seriously injured following two separate incidents of kerosene explosion in Ughelli, Delta State.
The deceased died in the early hours of, yesterday, two days after he was hospitalized at the Ughelli Central Hospital , Ughelli alongside one of his siblings.
Our correspondent who visited the hospital, gathered that the sibling of the deceased was lying critically ill from the injuries she sustained all over her body.
A relation of the deceased who was at the hospital declined comments on the incident.
Sunday Vanguard investigations revealed that the incident occurred at their residence in Ighaghomi Street in Ughelli as their mother was trying to refill their stove with kerosene.
A mother of two, who was also involved in the second incident, said she was refilling her lantern with kerosene when the explosion occurred.
The victim who gave her name as Mrs. Rite Ughakpoteni whose 12-year old daughter and 6 weeks old daughter also sustained serious burns, said it was her neighbour who ran into the house to rescue the children.
According to her, the children were lying on the bed before it was engulfed by fire that resulted from the explosion, lamenting that the children were in pains.
The woman, who lamented that there were no sufficient fund to pay their hospital bills, however, expressed gratitude to some well meaning individuals who have been supportive in one way or the other to them.
Mrs. Ughakpoteni, a petty trader, appealed to the state government and public spirited individuals to give them financial assistance to enable them pay for the recommended drugs.
