Govts urged to set up c’ttee on autism

Lagos — As Nigerians, weekend, joined the rest of the World to mark this year’s World Autism Day, WAAD, governments at all levels have been urged to urgently set up an action committee that will study autism for a policy, service, health and educational purposes.

Autism Spectrum Disorder, ASD, is a pervasive developmental disability that can cause social, communication and behavioural challenges ranging from mild to severe in children.

At a walk tagged, “Lagos Walk 4 Autism” organised Autism Associates in Lagos, National Co-ordinator of the organisation, Mr. Okey-Martins Nwokolo, lamented the stigma faced by people with the condition in Nigeria and appealed to the  public to understand and accept people with autism.
