Edo State Government has embarked on a comprehensive care, control, rehabilitation and education/awareness strategy for Sickle Cell Disorder in the State with supports from Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc.

The Chairman of the Sickle Cell Board of the State, Dr. Esitetemhe Oshotse Ohenhen who disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting with officials of Neimeth in Benin Edo State capital said  the project initiated by the Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole seeks to set the tone for private and public sector participation in delivering affordable Medicare without bureaucratic bottlenecks of the past.

Ohenhen stated that project would atleast bring hope for people living with the disorder in the State.

The implementation of the Sickle Cell Project Hope would include the provision of first class healthcare facilities, ensuring accessibility and affordability of quality medical care, aggressive public enlightenment amongst others.

Earlier, the Executive Vice President Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc,  Mr. Emmanuel Ekunno who expressed appreciation to the Board and extolled the State Government’s passion for persons living with sickle cell disorder promised that his organisation would fully support the State’s “Sickle Cell project Hope”.

Ekunno reiterated the role of Neimeth following the introduction into the pharmaceuticals market 10 years ago, the 1st Natural Nutritional Supplement with anti-sickling properties – CIKLAVIT for the management of Sickle Cell disorder.

He explained that series of multi-centre clinical trials were conducted in Nigeria and Ghana, the testimonies from people living with Sickle Cell Disorder and subsequent endorsement at the 56th Summit (2006) of the WHO in Addis Abba attested to the effectiveness and efficacy of Ciklavit.

According to him, Ciklavit is a 100 per cent  made-in-Nigeria product.  It is presented as a 200ml and 300ml pleasant- tasting suspension in an amber bottle.  The active ingredient is derived from cajenus cajan.  Ciklavit reduces the frequency and severity of painful crisis associated with sickle cell disorder and checks incessant hospitalization mental and physical trauma during crisis period.  Ciklavit also enhances growth and puberty in people living with Sickle Cell Disorder.  No deleterious side effects are associated with Ciklavit since it is derived from the natural extract of an edible bean seed.

In a related development, as part of its vision to operate a green business that would enhance the company’s productivity and sustainable distribution of its products, Neimeth has commenced the implementation of a world class Environmental Management System (EMS).

In furtherance of this vision, Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc has adopted the certification guidelines of NIS ISO 14001: 2004 as framework in the production and distribution of quality pharmaceuticals in Nigeria.  In view of this strategic action, the company becomes the first local pharmaceutical manufacturing firm to operate the highly valued management system.
