APM Terminals win $120million concession for Liberian port

APM Terminals has won a US$120 million 25-year concession to operate the port of Monrovia, in Liberia.
Bidders were asked to revamp the Marginal Wharf, develop container and general cargo operations and take on responsibility for marine services at the capital’s port, which is in urgent need of modernization.

Construction work on the quay wall would begin immediately, while a new berth, more efficient yard handling procedures and the installation of new equipment would transform the port into a competitive, world-class facility, capable of handling modern, deep drought vessels, said the port operator.

APM Terminals CEO Kim Fejfer added: “Our aim is to improve the port infrastructure and create a much stronger economic engine for the national and regional market.”
