By Ben Agande

ABUJA—The new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odein Ajumogobia has invited the contractors handling the new Ministry of Affairs headquarters building to a meeting in his office to explain the slow pace of work and other issues related to the building.

Mr Ajumogobia who undertook an inspection visit to the building yesterday in Abuja expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work at the headquarters.

“I am disappointed. This (State of the building) cannot be considering what has been committed, said the Minister yesterday.

It would be recalled that the building was initially awarded to an Italian firm,  G Cappa, but the contract was  terminated for alleged slow pace of work and was re-awarded to Bullet Construction company in 2003 for reasons of non performance.

During the recent handing over ceremony by the former minister, Ojo Maduekwe, it was disclosed that the building which had thrice been gutted by fire whose cause is still to be determined, would now be completed in July this year, ahead of the nation’s 50th Independence anniversary celebrations.
