Athletics Federation of Nigeria has bowed to pressure by athletes to include the all comers meet in the AFN Golden League, which enters its third leg this weekend in Lagos.
Against the back ground of rising costs, the federation sought to limit the event to the golden league event, but after considering the plight of other athletes that have no opportunity to compete, the AFN made a U-turn.
During the second leg of the Golden meet in Ibadan, the athletes were at the verge of causing a commotion of sorts, after they discovered that all comers will be excluded from the Golden League. The crisis was nipped in the bud by AFN members.
“We have decided to go along with the all comers meet. This because we realised that there is no other avenue of competition for the athletes who are not on the Golden League,†said an official of the AFN in Lagos.
