Yar’Adua : Amechi hails Akunyili

By  Vincent Ujumadu

AWKA—ELDER statesman and first Republic Minister, Chief Mbazulike Amechi is full of praises for the Information and Communications Minister, Professor  Dora Akunyili for the steps she had taken so far to get the nation moving forward, especially on the issue of the health of President Umaru Yar’ Adua.

“I am happy that there is one person that will wipe out the shame from our country and she is from Anambra State. I am proud of her. The federal cabinet is made up of opportunists who should be in jail right now,” Amechi told reporters in Awka.

Amechi said the nation could no longer afford the dillydallying that was going-on on the health and whereabouts of President  Yar’Adua, adding that the goings-on in Abuja portend ominous signs that things could be catastrophic for the nation. He called for urgent steps to be taken to restore  normalcy to the country.

He said that if for three months in a Saudi hospital, the President was unable to say a recorded word or message to his country, or sign the required letter to the leadership of the National Assembly and on return to Nigeria, he is unable to say a word on radio or television to his people, then something is fatally wrong, adding that the nation should no longer be deceived.

He suggested that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan should be sworn in without further delay as the substantive President and Commander-in-Chief, while the North should nominate a Vice-President to put the nation back on track.

Amechi, said a situation where Nigerians were denied access and information about their president was not acceptable, adding that the whole saga about the health of the president had become a huge insult and embarrassment to the nation.
