Adeyemi: Giving kids a new deal

In this interview, he explains why we must develop our kids for future economic development.
Why are  you  interested  in kids talents?

What we are trying to achieve with this project is to create a platform for Nigerian children within the ages of 6 – 17 to showcase their talents. We believe that the future of the country lies in the strength of these children because they indeed are the future of this great nation.

And going by the word of Harry Truman which says “I have found the best way to give advice to your children, it’s to find out what they are good in and then guide them to do it better.”  There is nothing more important for us as adults to do than to assist these children in developing their potentials, in developing their God-given talents. In summary, that is what the Naija Kids Have It, aims to achieve in relation to this project and talent competition.

You are  a lawyer, what gave you this vision?
I’m professionally a lawyer but passionately, an entrepreneur. I’m also Nigeria-centric! Shortly after I finished my programme in Harvard, the first thing I did when I got back to the country last year, was to donate a website to federal governmen.

That website cost my company not less than $US16,000, but we did it because of our passion and  belief  that it is going to achieve something positive and  ensure that Nigeria becomes a better place. It’s actually good for everyone of us as Nigerians.

I met with the Honourable Minister for Information and Communication, Prof. Akunyili in Abuja in August last year. And this was actually what made us to make this websibe: The Naija Kids Have It is the second phase of our plight  in doing something  that seeks to assist or  add value to this great nation.

The Naija Kids Have It cuts across children between the ages of 6 – 17, regardless of whatever talent  they have. I’m talking about the child who doesn’t even have parents anymore but is endowed with God-given gift that will to a large extent add to the glory  of this great nation. The Naija Kids Have It, takes interest in kiddies talent whether the child is rich or poor, tall or short, fat or thin.

How easy is it to package or prepare kids for the future ?
What we have decided to do  for this season is to start with Lagos state. We’ve decided to seek the consent of the schools; Primary and Secondary schools essentially that have kids within the age 6 – 17. What we try to do is to set aside these children on  assembly grounds and ask their teachers the performance of these children which we use as a guide to decipher which child has what talent and what each child would like to do.

Secondly, we’ve spread the elimination dates to eight days starting from May 13 – 20, Semi Final May 22 and Finals
