Warri blasts: Community disowns militant leader

By Emma Amaize

WARRI—PATANI   community in Delta State, yesterday, disowned a militant leader, “Commander” Jerry, alleged to have led the militants that detonated two bombs at Government House Annex, Warri, venue of the aborted post-amnesty dialogue organised by Vanguard Newspapers last Monday.

Intelligence reports indicated that “Commander” Jerry is based in Patani, but chairman of the community, Sunday Bomabebe, said there was no militant in the community.

“There is no militant camp in Patani and we don’t know anybody called Commander Jerry here. We are disturbed that our community is being associated with the said Jerry.

“Patani is a peaceful community and the only militant leader that was here sometime ago is one Commander Columbus, the second-in-command to Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, which was a long time, over 10 years ago.   We don’t have militants here,” he said.

A source in the community, however, said “if it’s the Commander Jerry I know, he is an impostor; he has been impersonating Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, for a very long time and collecting money from Setraco Construction Company.”
