Tragedy struck, weekend, after a 60-year-old woman and her two grand-children were crushed to death by a vehicle, at Adekunle area of Lagos State.
The incident which causedÂ stampede during which some pedestrians reportedly sustained injuries, occurred at about 9.45 pm at Estate bus-stop, close to the Third Mainland bridge.
Eyewitness said the grand-mother who was simply identified as Mama Sikira, was about crossing the road with her two grandchildren when the unexpected happened. The children were identified as Rashidat Abiodun (8) and Jamiu Abiodun (5).
Driver of the vehicle was said to have sped off, leaving his victims in the pool of their blood. Other motorists plying the route attempted to help rush the victims to the hospital but all was to no avail when they reportedly discovered none of them was alive.
Confirming the incident, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr Frank Mba, said the deceased had been buried according to Islamic rites, adding that effort was on to trail the fleeing driver.
He appealed to anyone with useful information that could lead to the apprehension of the fleeing driver to avail such to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Denton division or to the nearest police station.
