The value of quoted companies on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) appreciated, last week, by N200.07 billion, as the market capitalisation and All-share index rose by three per cent each.
In particular, the capitalisation which opened the weekâ€™s trading at N5.924 trillion rose by 3.38 per cent to close at N6.124 trillion while the index garnered 804.99 basis points to close at 25,322.87 points from 24,517.88 points at which it opened the week.
Seventy-nine stocks recorded price gain compared to 33 share price losers. Flour Mills Nigeria Plc recorded the most share price gain, rising by N6.91 to close at N58.30 per share, Nigerian Breweries Plc followed with a gain of N5.10 to close at N63.00 per share and Nigerian Bottling Company Plc garnered N4.63 to close at N31.13 per share.
Other share price losers include: UAC Nigeria Property Development Company Plc N3.97, Guinness Nigeria Plc N3.00, PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc N2.91, Northern Nigeria Flour Mills Plc N2.72, UAC Nigeria Plc N2.50, Benue Cement Company Plc N2.23, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc N2.00 among others.
On the contrary, Nigerian Enamelware Plc recorded the most share price loss, dropping by N5.15 to close at N47.70 per share, African Petroleum Plc followed with a loss of N2.27 to close at N43.13 per share and Alumaco Plc dipped by N1.74 to close at N10.50 per share.
Other share price losers include: Oando Plc N1.50, BOC Gases Plc N1.46, Cadbury Nigeria Plc N1.06, Nigerian-German Chemicals Plc N0.75, Longman Nigeria Plc N0.60, Academy Press Plc N0.34, Ecobank Nigeria Plc N0.29 among others.
A turnover of 2.5 billionÂ shares valued at N21.1 billion was recorded in the week under review, in 47,293 deals, in contrast to the previous weekâ€™s turnover of 2.5 billion shares valued at N21.41 billion in 40,091 deals.
The Banking sub-sector dominated the other sub-sectors, accounting for 46.6 per cent of the market turnover, withÂ 1.17 billion shares valued at N12.07 billion in 19,789 deals. Zenith Bank Plc recorded the highest transaction in the sub-sector, trading 152.52 million shares valued at N2.73 billion in 1,648 deals, United Bank for Africa Plc followed with the exchange of 151.62 million shares valued at N2.23 billion in 1,299 deals and GTBank Plc recorded 94.86 million shares valued at N1.87 billion in 2,781 deals.
The Insurance sub-sector followed on the sectorial analysis, accounting for 17.72 per cent of the market turnover, with 443 million shares valued at N517.3 million in 4,345 deals. Law Union and Rock Insurance Plc enjoyed the most patronage in the sub-sector, trading 127.24 million shares valued at N64.01 million in 165 deals, followed by Guaranty Trust Assurance Plc, with the exchange of 50.03 million shares valued at N154.38 million in 381 deals, Custodian and Allied Insurance recorded 38.21 million shares valued at N143.25 million in 322 deals.
