No fewer than 120 guests and players attended the official commissioning and launching of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) Golf course last Saturday with Osun state governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola donating N2million to the course development.

CEO of Ventolite Marketing International, the event’s marketer, Patrick Ukah informed that a total of N10m in cash and pledges was realized at the one-day event. Represented by the state’s Special Adviser on Transport and commissioner designate, Chief Soji Longe, Prince Oyinlola, who is also the President of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) while delivering his speech said he would continue to support the club until it can stand on its feet. Prince Oyinlola also promised to sponsor the club’s kitty.

The Cross Rivers State governor also represented by his commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Raymond Otaba Obeten, donated N1millon to the green project of the club while promising to support the club.

Also on hand was the representative of Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, the Special adviser for Sports. The host governor also launched the project with an unspecified amount of money.

Chairman of the event, former Managing Director of Union Bank, Chief  J.T Oboh, former captain of Ikoyi Club 1938 (Golf Section) Uyi Akpata, Godwin Obaseki, Sir and Lady Anyaele, Mofe Boyo, GMD of Oando and IDFL, a subsidiary of NNPC in Benin also pledged various sums and construction of greens for the new club.

Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Mike Ibadin in his speech promised to continue to support the club in its teething stage.

“We are extremely happy with the turnout of our guests and friends to the UBTH Golf Club and I want to say that we would continue to support the club until it can stay on its own”.

Prof Ibadin also conferred special recognition award on notable individuals who have played significant role in nurturing and supporting and club to the present state of development.

Among them are Prof E.E Okpere, founder and initiator of UBTH Golf Club. Prof Okpere is also the immediate past Chef Medical Director of UBTH.
