The South East Zone of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) rose from an emergency stakeholders forum from a resolution endorsing Mr. Davidson Owumi to contest the post of NPL chairman in the forth coming NPL elections on March 10 and 11, 2010 in Abuja.
A statement by the National Vice Chairman South East Zone of SWAN, Mr. Foster Chime, said the zone endorsed the candidacy of Mr. Owumi having looked at his track records from being an active footballer to an astute football administrator/manager and technical director in current NPL management, and chairman club owners association.
Mr. Chime recalled the invaluable role and contributions of Mr. Owumi in football development in the South East Zone especially to all the Premier, Professional and Amateur Clubs in the South East Zone and more importantly the Rangers Football Club, where he held sway for more than six years as CEO and Team Manager, taking the club to continental engagements with positive results.
As current chairman Club Owners Association of Nigeria,Â Owumi has endeared himself to all the Premier Clubs in the country with his style of leadership and unity of purpose, carrying every club and members along on issues that will be of benefit to the members, especially on issues of television rights, money accruing to clubs from the sponsorship funds from Globacom and other incentives to clubs.
Mr. Owumi has also endeared himself to sports journalists within the South East Zone and Nigerian as a whole, with his co-operative nature, assistance, support and partnership in order to take football to lofty heights.
