Rivers State commissioner for sports, Boma Iyaye has written an apology letter to the Nigeria Football Federation after it threatened to sanction Sharks Football Club over the sacking of club’s general manager Okey Kpalukwu.
The Port Harcourt side was bedevilled by internal crisis, which led to the sacking of Mr. Kpalukwu. The NFF stepped in and ordered that the general manager be recalled to duty, but the Rivers’ sports authority declined. The NFF then threatened to sack Sharks from the league, a development that would have seen the club relegated.
A humbled Rivers State sports commissioner, Boma Iyaye, was forced to write three grovelling letters in quick succession to the NFF, and included a guarantee that Kpalukwu would be reinstated.
On the strength of those letters, the NFF is considering a review of the suspension on the suitably chastised Sharks within the next 24 to 48 hours.
