Residents jubilate over ministers’ sack…say it ‘ll give them respite over demolition

Abuja—Residents of Lugbe Satellite town, a suburb of Abuja, yesterday heaved a sigh of relief following Wednesday’s dissolution of the Federal Executive Council.

Some of the residents said the dissolution of the cabinet would give them respite from the threat by former FCT Minister, Adamu Aliero to demolish their houses.

Mr Peter Otiribi, a lawyer, said he had been at a loss as to where to relocate his family following the announcement of the planned demolition of houses in his area.

“I tried to get accommodation even in neighbouring Nasarawa State, but it has not been possible because of the high rent.

“Wednesday’s dissolution of cabinet has given residents hope that the planned demolition may not happen soon,” Otiribi noted.

Another resident, Mr Charles Nnorom, said: “We are happy that the FCT did not carry out the demolition at the time it planned to do so.’’

It would be recalled that the demolition of Lugbe and other illegal settlements originally planned for Feb. 28 was postponed indefinitely by the former minister.
