PPA chieftain alleges manipulation of voters’ register in Enugu

By Tony Edike

ENUGU—LEADER of   Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA,  in Enugu State, Chief Okey Ezea, yesterday,  alleged that the voters register in the state is currently being manipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the state government to give the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP undue advantage in the 2011 general elections.

Ezea accused the Enugu State Government of conspiring with INEC officials  in the state to pad the voter’s register in their favour ahead of  next general election.
He called on the national secretariat of INEC to investigate the allegation and bring to book,  its officers involved in the illegal act.

Ezea also called for urgent amendment of the 1999 constitution to enable INEC erase all legal bottlenecks that may jeopardize 2011 general elections.

The PPA chieftain told newsmen in Enugu that it had become imperative for INEC to do away with use of ad-hoc staff for the conduct of elections if there must be credible polls in the country.

He said, “the worst nightmare for the electoral process in the country was the use of unknown people, who have nothing at stake during the polls.  Election manipulations subject the reputation of the country to ridicule and it must stop.”
