Policeman shot dead in Port Harcourt

PORT HARCOURT—A police sergeant was shot dead last Tuesday around Circular road in Port Harcourt by a gang of four armed robbers.

Confirming the development to Vanguard, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Rita Abbey, said the armed robbers disappeared with the rifle of the deceased police officer.

She gave the name of the deceased police man as Sgt Zephaniah Gogo.

According to her, the deceased policeman was on escort duty with Form Works Technology when the incident occurred.

She said the civilian driver of the escort vehicle was shot on the arm, and later rushed to a trauma centre in Port Harcourt by sympathizers.

“A gang of four-man robbers attacked a police escort on duty with Form Works Technology, Rainbow Port Harcourt at 48 Circular road, Elekahia and succeeded in killing one Sgt Zephaniah Gogo attached to B Ops, Port Harcourt and his weapon taken away from him.

“Driver of the escort vehicle, a civilian, was shot on the right arm and rushed to Teme clinic for treatment. The fleeing four-man gang operated in an unidentified green or blue car,” she said.
