PDP wants suspended council chiefs reinstated

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN CITY— THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State has asked Governor Adams Oshiomhole to respect the rule of law by abiding with the motion passed by the House of Representatives, asking him to reverse the suspension of the Chairmen of Orhiomnwon and Akoko Edo local government councils of the state.

It would be recalled that the House of Representatives had last week passed a motion calling on the Governor to reverse the suspension of the chairmen, just as the House also condemned the impeachment of the Speaker, Zakawanu Garuba, but the Governor vowed that the state government would not be intimidated to to implement the motion.

The Governor also said he would not want to comment on the suspension of the speaker of the State House of Aseembly, since the matter was already before a court.

However, the PDP in a statement weekend, signed by its state Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, commended the leadership of the House of Representatives for its decision and urged the Governor to  respect the constitution and the rule of law and abide with the motion passed by the House of Representatives.

The party urged the governor to comply without further delay with the provision of Edo State Local Government law 2000, as amended in 2006, by reversing the suspension and removal of  executive chairmen of Oredo, Orhiomnwon and Akoko Edo local governments.
