AKURE—THE opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State has condemned the invasion of the state by armed robbers and hired assassins.

It would be recalled that within 24 hours two persons were gun down by gunmen in cold blood in Akure metropolis.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Chief Adeyemi Adedipe, said the development which led to the daylight assassination of two businessmen and robbery of a High Court judge was “a total breakdown of law and order”.

Adedipe argued that the state government was not doing enough to protect the lives of innocent residents, saying, “It is inexcusable that a Chief Executive will preside over a state and allow armed robbers on motorbike unleashed terror on the citizens without showing concern.

However, in a swift reaction the Information Commissioner Ranti Akerele, described the statement by the PDP as baseless, saying that the party was only looking for an avenue to talk.

Akerele said the alarm was “nothing but an attempt to create an avenue to talk because the state has been  peaceful since the inception of the Labour Party, LP, administration last year”.

Akerele, however, said the PDP was only trying to create a false impression that the state was not secure, adding that  government had already put measures in place to address the recent security threat in the state.

He said, “It is on record that when the PDP was in office, especially in the two years of its administration, there was so much insecurity that even the Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the governor was murdered in cold blood by yet to be identified assassins.
