Ondo PDP okays Kayode’s appointment as minister

By Dayo Johnson
THE crisis over the re-nomination of Prince Tokunbo Kayode as a Minister representing Ondo State may have finally been resolved as the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State has endorsed him.

The Party and the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, in the state, weekend applauded his appointment, describing it as a round peg in a round hole.

With the endorsement of Kayode by the Party in the state, the crisis over his nomination which led to division among the leadership of the party in the state may have been resolved.

Reports had it that some leaders of the party in the state had kicked against his return as a minister representing the state.

Vanguard gathered that two major groups emerged after the dissolution of the Federal cabinet with one led by a former Commissioner for Finance and governorship aspirant, Chief Tayo Alasoadura and the other led by the immediate past Governor, Olusegun Agagu.

The group led by Alasoadura was against Kayode’s return while the camp of Dr Agagu was solidly behind him.

It got to a head when speculation were rife in the state last week that the Senators representing the state had perfected plans to thwart his clearance slated for this week.

But reports from the Party in the state showed that their differences had been resolved and the party leadership had agreed to sheath their swords in order to allow easy passage of the nominee in the senate.

Both members of the state executive of the party and the three senators from the State are said have agreed to support his nomination.

The Ondo, Ikare, Akure, Okitipupa and Akure chapters of the NBA said the appointment of Kayode would help develop the cause of justice in the country just as he would help achieve the rule of law mantra of the present administration in the country.

Outgoing Publicity Secretary of Akure chapter of NBA, Mr. Rotimi Olorunfemi said in Akure that ““ Kayode having served as the first Vice President of NBA, and held several positions in the association, he would be of good service not only to the federal government but the law profession.

The acting President for appointing Kayode as the nominee for the State adding that the appointment has once again showed that the Jonathan is ready to move the country forward.”
