Winners of the Globacom “Recharge and Go To Old Trafford promo” who left for Manchester, United Kingdom last weekend for the Manchester United versus Liverpool match were given a star treatment by the Manchester United management.

Leading the Manchester United delegation to receive the team on Monday was Dennis Irwin, one of the biggest legends in the history of the club, having won seven Premiership trophies and one Champions League trophy among numerous other silver wares with the club.

While welcoming the eight winners who made the trip in front of Manchester United Stadium at Old Trafford, Irwin said it must have been a truly special feeling for the winners to be selected for an all-expense paid trip from Nigeria to Manchester to watch Man Utd play and also tour the historic Old Trafford just for being Globacom subscribers.

He described the batch that watched the Man Utd versus Liverpool match as special because of the historic rivalry between the two teams. “This year, we are celebrating one hundred years of Old Trafford. The first match that was played at Old Trafford 100 years ago was between Manchester United and Liverpool and at exactly 100 years, the match Manchester United played at the stadium was also against Liverpool”, said the Legend.
Irwin and two other senior Manchester United officials took the Globacom delegation to the club’s museum which has over 200 trophies won in the history of the club, the Munich Tunnel, a memorial plaque built in honour of the team’s players, officials, journalists and others who perished in the 1958 plane crash in Munich, the players’s hospitality suite where the team relax before and after each home match and  the locker room where the players are briefed by the manager, Sir Alex Ferguson before, during and after each home match.
He also took the delegation to the tunnel from where players and officials step into the field on match days, the Dug Out where the managers and reserved players of the two teams sit during matches, the pitch, the stand and the photo studio where each of the winners of the Glo “Recharge and Go to Old Trafford Promo” took pictures with the English Premier League trophy Man Utd won last year and the Carling Cup the team recently won.

For the winners, the personal highpoint of the visit was when Irwin presented a customised Man Utd jersey to each of them.

  1. Earlier on Sunday, the winners had joined about 80,000 other Manchester United and Liverpool fans to watch  Man Utd defeat Liverpool 2-1. Each time the adrenalin of the game rose to the zenith during the tension-soaked encounter, the winners of the Glo promo also rose in a manner reminiscent of the Mexican wave, displaying the banner they brought with them which read, “Glo/Man U: the winning team. Rule your world. Glo”.
