A bizarre occurrence played itself out weekend in Lagos after a middle-aged man identified as Johnson allegedly stabbed his landlord to death, after which he committed suicide.
The sad incident, police sources, said took place at 26 A Salifat Abioye street Oke- Ira, Ogba, Lagos. The cause of the tragic incident could not be immediately ascertained, but sources said the late Johnson had a quarrel with his wife while the landlord tried to intervene which unfortunately did not go down well with him. He was said to have accused the landlord of always supporting his wife against him anytime they had misunderstanding.
The landlord simply identified as Chief Muideen was also accused by Johnson who worked as a bus conductor to the said chief of having illicit affairs with his wife hence he (the chief) was always on the side of his wife during quarrels.
Vanguard was told that Johnson, having been irked by the manner the landlord settled the matter , grabbed a sharp knife, charged towards the chief and stabbed him.
The chief was said to have slumped in a pool of his blood. He was later rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Sensing the implication of his action, Johnson was reported to had gone to the back of the house fetched an electric rope with which he committed.
A team of policemen were reported to had visited the scene where the dangling body of late Johnson was lowered and deposited in the hospital for autopsy.
A police public relations office source confirmed the ugly incident and said investigation into the matter had since commenced, adding that it happened at about 2.30pm on Friday, March 26, 2010.
