NFF president Sani Lulu Abdullahi, said that new coach Lars Lagerback is Nigeria’s ‘Special One’ who met all the criteria the country was looking for in their search for a new Technical Adviser.
“Following our performance at the African Nations Cup, Nigerians clamoured for a change in the technical crew of our team.
“And so we set about on a search for a Special One. That special one is Lars Lagerback, a man who has the bearing, intelligence and tactical knowledge to lead our team to great heights at the World Cup.â€
Lulu was quick to add that the appointment of an expatriate coach was not an indication that the NFF have lost faith in indigenous coaches, “This does not mean the NFF has lost faith in the Nigerian coach. We have not,†he said.
“As we have been doing before, we will continue to encourage them to improve themselves.
“We believe that one day; a Nigerian coach will be good enough to lead a Nigerian team to win the World Cup.â€
