Jos: We shouldn’t be caught napping again, Onovo

Onovo said while addressing officers and men at the police headquarters in Jos Friday that the police should be alert to discover violence before they occur and work with other security forces to nip them in the bud.

“Henceforth, the police should not be taken unawares again. As trained officers, you should be able to detect issues on time and take necessary preventive steps in collaboration with other security operatives”, he said.

Onovo described this period as solemn, noting that the nation was going through a phase in her developing process.

He assured the officers and men that government appreciated their efforts but urged them to do more in the effort to restore normalcy to the state.

He said he had had discussions with the Chief of Defence Staff on the issue of the allowances for those on security duties and he promised that something would be done soon.

The IGP who was in Jos for the graduation ceremony of senior command course 32/2010 said the new syllabi and training scheme in the police will take care of contemporary challenges in community policing, internal security and emergencies, riot duties, collaboration with other services, terrorism, media relations, election duties, among others.
