Industrial and General Insurance Plc (IGI) has emerged the official insurer for the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), Mr Eniola Ashaolu, IGI’s Communication Manager, has said.

“The contract made IGI the exclusive official insurance company for the NPL for the next three years, starting from the current football season. The contract was signed on behalf of IGI by the Company’’s Deputy Managing Director (Operations), Mr Rotimi Fashola, while NPL Executive Secretary, Mr Alhassan Yakmut, signed on behalf of NPL.  The Group Managing Director of Carrier Insurance Brokers Limited, Mrs ‘‘Lola Oshiafi, signed as witness to the contract,” Ashaolu said.

Fashola said that IGI’s appointment as NPL official insurer reflected the recognition of the company’’s support for the development of sports, particularly football in Nigeria. “IGI is widely reputed for support of sports in Nigeria and indeed, in Africa. Our partnership with NPL as the official insurer is a continuation of our commitment to the development of sports and the youth in Nigeria,” he said.

Ashaolu said that IGI had shareholders’ funds in excess of N31 billion and asset base in excess of N45 billion.
“The firm has 45 branches spread across Nigeria and has subsidiaries in Uganda, Rwanda, Ghana and Gambia, with representative offices in London and Washington, DC. IGI has been the official insurer to all the Nigerian national football teams,” he said.

Yakmut said that NPL decided to partner with IGI because of the company’’s robust programme for the league.  Besides, Yakmut said that “the firm also provides moral and material support during our major programmes including our annual congress, seminars and workshops.”

Oshiafi expressed happiness that Carrier Insurance was able to broker the deal that led to the partnership between IGI and NPL. “We are happy that this formal contract signing had come up. It is a manifestation of the great roles played by all the parties to this noble agreement,” she said.
