Hosting World Cup in Africa will boost tourism, says Runsewe

The Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) Otunba  Olusegun Runsewe has said  that the World Cup taking place in Africa  will help broaden the market for tourism which has immense potential to create jobs, directly and indirectly. He re-iterated the country’s support for the success of the competition taking place in South Africa.

He said this at the ITB travel fair taking place in  Berlin, Germany during a visit by the South Africa Tourism boss,Ambassador Thandiwe  January-Mclean to the Nigeria stand.

‘Let me once again say that Nigeria is totally supporting and working with South Africa for the success of this World Cup, because  we believe  very strongly  that if South Africa does well, Africa has done well.

While calling for the support of other African countries to make the hosting successful, Otunba Runsewe told the South African Tourism boss that  Nigeria is going to have a village  in South Africa during the duration of the competition.

“At the Nigerian Village, we are going to have  Nigeria culture, cuisine, music  and dances on display. And during the event, Nigerians and other foreign nationals will have the opportunity to witness Nigerian culture and entertainment.”

He said that popular Nigerian actors and others will be on hand to entertain guests visiting the village.

He told the SAT boss that the corporation will soon be in South Africa to drum up support for the World Cup the Nigeria way.
