Five injured as Gov Lamido’s convoy crashes

By Idris Mohammed

KATSINA —  About five people were seriously injured along Kankara-Seme-Gusau road when two SUVs on  Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State’s convoy had a head-on collision with a commercial vehicle, an Audi 80 car, recently.

An eye witness told Vanguard that Lamido was returning to his state, after attending a People’s Democratic Party, PDP, function at Gusau, Zamfara State.

The witness who was part of the rescue operation told  Vanguard that the accident was actually fatal, as many victims may not survive it. The incident, it was gathered, happened at about 4.30 pm on that day.

“Two SUVs which were following the Governor’s car rammed into the on-coming commercial Audi 80 car and caused the vehicle to damage heavily.

“The front tyres of one of the SUVs and its bumper  went off to a different location, while the commercial car ran into a ditch after somersaulting severally.

“One woman whose buttock was completely smashed and a badly injured three-year-old boy, were among those in critical condition.

“No death was immediately recorded but some were badly injured and unconscious victims are certainly not likely to survive it,” the sources said.

It was, however, learnt that Governor Lamido ordered the immediate evacuation of the victims into an ambulance in the entourage to an undisclosed hospitals  at Malumfashi and Kankara.

As the victims were being evacuated into the Government House ambulance, Governor Lamido departed, and left behind the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly who was on his entourage to convey the victims to the hospital.
