Financial integrity key to the success story of Lagos, Deputy Gov

LAGOS State Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan said the State has excelled in its development efforts because of the government’s insistence on integrity, transparency and accountability in the management of  financial resources.

Princess Sosan who declared open a retreat for the management staff (grade levels 13 and above) of the Ministry of Finance as well as Treasury and Debt Management offices at the weekend, explained that without prudent resource management, the Fashola administration would not have accomplished the much it has done.

The Deputy Governor who described the Finance ministry as the engine room of the present administration in Lagos, lauded the staff  for discharging their duties creditably. She charged them to rededicate themselves to service and “become fully recharged to contribute our quota to the fiscal advancement of the State”.

The Commissioner for Finance, Prince Rotimi Oyekan said the retreat with the theme “Actualising the vision and mission of being a model manager of public finance in Africa through efficient financial risk management” was packaged to consolidate on the achievements of the maiden edition held last year as well as restrategise for an even better performance and enhanced service delivery.

The Commissioner who stressed the need to empower the workforce through capacity building initiatives explained that such measures would enable them face the challenges of effectively managing financial risks in the course of executing the states’s projects. “Our commitment to sustaining a culture of excellence has been the driving force behind our taking stock and evaluating our activities and results from time to time.

While our performance in the preceding years had been commendable, our passion for excellence had made us converge again this year to listen to experts do justice to new global economic and financial management issues and how to effectively manage financial risks,” he said.

Prince Oyekan said the retreat will enrich their experience and assist in fine-tuning their strategies for a more efficient and improved service delivery. Noting that the global economic meltdown has taken its toll on every facet of our life.

The Lead resource person and managing director of Frontier Capital Limited, Mr Femi Edu said the work of transformation is a journey to make Lagos the model for Africa in public sector financing.
