Ex-NAFDAC Director dies mysteriously

By Austin Ogwuda
Asaba—FORMER Director of National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Delta State, Dr. Mercy Okoh, was reportedly found dead at Asaba Niger Bridge Head in mysterious circumstances.

The ex-NAFDAC boss, whose last transfer took her to Onitsha in Anambra State, was said to be travelling with her driver last Saturday morning for a burial ceremony somewhere in the east when the unfortunate incident occurred.

While relations and friends of the woman alleged foul play, police said the driver claimed that when they got to the bridge that morning, there was heavy traffic jam which prompted the woman to leave the car while he (driver) continued driving.

The driver was said to have explained further that her boss decided to take a commercial motorcycle to continue the journey but eventually slumped and died.

Vanguard gathered that the woman’s husband, a high court judge, reported the incident at the Police B Division, Asaba, which led to the arrest of the driver.

Delta State police command’s spokesman, Mr. Charles Muka, said investigation was in top gear, adding that “from the briefing so far, we were told that the woman slumped and died but we will get to the root of the matter. The driver is still with us (police).”
