‘Era of multiple taxation over in hotels’

The Director General of      the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, Otunba  Olusegun  Runsewe  has assured hoteliers that the era of multiple taxation in the hospitality industry would soon be a thing of the past.

The NTDC boss disclosed this recently at a stockholders dinner organized by Hotel Owners Forum, Abuja (HOFA)at Rockview hotel.

He commended the efforts of the hotel owners in Abuja in adding value to the economic growth of the economy, but decried some of the inhibitions  being faced by the body, especially the issue of multiple taxation which he promised the corporation would  intervene  and tackle.

Otunba Runsewe describe HOFA “as setting the pace in the country as he said  no other state has a body such as the body.

Otunba Runsewe who was the guest of honour at the dinner  descried the hospitality industry “as the biggest employer of labour in the world”.

He affirmed that Nigerian has all its takes to be great, but regretted the fact that the nation had relied so much on oil, noting  that countries that are doing well economically and tourism_wise “use the goodwill of their people that are committed”.

The NTDC helmsman posited that if Dubai that was a desert some years back could turn their country to a global tourist destination, why couldn’t Nigeria with all its great potentials, he queried?

While commending the efforts of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in fighting 419 and fraudsters in the country, he stressed that Nigerians should desist from celebrating fraudsters in our society, instead, hard working should be celebrated.

Earlier, the President of Hotel Owners Forum Abuja (HOFA), Tomi Akingbogun in his welcome address stated that the association was founded  with the aim of protecting  hotel owners investments as well as the interest of the tourism industry  among others .
Tomi Akingbogun,  who commended the immense contributions of the DG NTDC and his management team for their support to the association, further appreciated the Corporation for putting to an end the “use of mobile courts who arbitrarily arrest hotel staff at hotel premises and subsequent jailing them without legal representation”
He further commended NTDC for “addressing the difficulty in getting tourism information to investors”.

The president explained that HOFA is the association of all hotel owners in the Federal capital Territory. He added that the term owner is extended to include all investors and operators of hotels in the Federal Capital Territory.
