Ekeji to declare open coaches’ seminar

Director General of the National Sports Commission, Patrick Ekeji, will be Special Guest of Honour and also declare open a two-day seminar for Nigeria Football Coaches being organised by the Nigeria Football Federation in Abuja, starting today.

Ekeji, a very dependable defender for the national senior team in the late 1970s, eventually became a Coach, and coached the Green Eagles in 1985.

The former right back, who played for Nigeria at the 1978 African Cup of Nations in Ghana, also served as Director of Sports in Imo State before becoming the Director of Sports Development in the National Sports Commission. Last year, he replaced Nigeria’s FIFA Member, Dr. Amos Adamu as the Director General of the National Sports Commission.

The seminar, with the theme ‘The Nigeria Football Coach in the 21st Century – Challenges and Prospects’, will take place at the FIFA Technical Centre, within the National Stadium Complex, and will be addressed by new Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles, Mr. Lars Lagerback.

After the opening ceremony, former NFF General Secretary, Dr. Ahmed Tijjani Yusuf will deliver a paper on “Leadership and Power – The Panacea for Effective Coaching”, while Professor Lasun Emiola will speak on “Modern Scientific Methods used in Football” and Dr. Ola Olajide will lecture the audience on “Development of Sustainable Football Academies: Problems and Prospects”.

Discussants for the first day include FIFA Advisor and NFF Technical Consultant, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, renown psychologist, Professor Philomena Bolaji Ikulayo and former Nigeria Coach James Peters.
Later on, Professor Ikulayo will talk on “Psychological Preparation for Football Competition while Dr. E. O. Morakinyo will deliver a paper titled “Integration of Mental Skills into Everyday Coaching in Football”.
