EFCC did not freeze Ijebu-East accounts, says Daniel

By Kolade Larewaju
GOVERNOR Olugbenga Daniel Wednesday refuted claims by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] that it has frozen the accounts of the crisis ridden Ijebu-East Local Government saying that there was no truth in the claim.

The Head of Media and Publicity of EFCC, Mr. Femi Babafemi had on Tuesday confirmed to newsmen that the Commission had frozen the accounts of the Local Government following a petition by the suspended Chairman of the Council, Mr. Tunde Oladunjoye.

But Governor Daniel at the swearing in of two new Commissioners in the State- Mr. Sina Kawonise [Information] and Ms. Olatomi Soboyejo [Women Affairs] – said that no account of the Local Government has been frozen and as such were operational.

“It was while I was in Abuja yesterday [Tuesday] that information filtered in that the accounts have been frozen and I called so that somebody can check and the information I received was that no account had been frozen.

“”Again, this morning when I checked, no account was frozen. Although I would have easily checked in Abuja from the EFCC, but I said I will not bother to find out. If and when they freeze any account, it is then we will ask them why”.

Blaming the reports on some people against his administration, Governor Daniel said that the agents of destabilization were simply stupefied by his performance saying that his administration was always on the part of truth.

He said “I can assure you that contrary to the impression being painted, Ogun is a very peaceful, progressive state, blazing the trail in virtually all area of human endeavor. People who cannot live with the progress we are making in Ogun State are the ones behind all these things”

Addressing the new Information Commissioner, Mr. Kawonise, the Governor said “sometimes you will be shocked and will marvel at the dexterity of mischief makers. You will have to stand firm because this administration is standing on truth. You have the wherewithal to stand firm. Your will, will be tested”.
