By  Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—An Imo State High Court sitting in Owerri, has ordered the immediate reinstatement of Citizen Eric Otuonye, as Director, Planning, Research and Statistics in the Secondary Education Management Board, SEMB, Owerri.

Trial judge in the matter, Justice Nonyerem Okoronkwo, also ordered that  full salaries, allowances, benefits and other entitlements be paid to the plaintiff. Otuonye, who was forcefully retired by the Achike Udenwa administration by a letter dated November 28, 2005, hinged his suit, on the fact that he was not given a fair hearing by the Robert Asuzu panel that investigated illegal employment in SEMB between 1999 and May 2003.

“It is hereby declared that the proceedings, findings and recommendations of the 2nd defendant (Robert Asuzu panel) as it affects the plaintiff (Otuonye) are null and void, having been made in flagrant breach of the plaintiff’s constitutional rights to fair hearing,” Justice Okoronkwo said.
