Chime’s wife offers financial assistance to widows

Enugu—Mrs Clara Chime, wife of the Enugu State Governor, has provided financial assistance to indigent widows from the 17 local government areas of the state.

The gesture was to mark the 2010 Women’s Day celebrations in Enugu.

Presenting the cash gifts to the widows, who came in company of wives of their local government chairmen at Okpara Square, Chime said the gifts were part of her pet project aimed at empowering widows.

She said the state coined its own local theme for the day as “Women Empowerment and Poverty Reduction”  in line with her pet project aimed at reducing poverty among women to the barest minimum.

She reminded women of the need to support their husbands in view of the effects of the global economic recession, which she noted was posing a great challenge to families.

Chime noted that this year was crucial to the state politically because of the upcoming 2011 general elections and urged them to support efforts by the government to empower women.
