Anambra: Onwugbufor asks court to void Obi’s election

…says Iwu not capable to conduct polls

ABUJA—Chief Judge of the Federal high court, Justice Dan Abutu has assumed jurisdiction on a fresh lawsuit seeking to remove Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State from office.

Hearing in the suit kicks off less than one week after Peter Obi took oath of office.

The constitutional lawsuit was filed by the gubernatorial flagbearer of the Better Nigeria Progressive Party, BNPP, Mr Valentine C. Onwugbufor against Governor Peter Obi and the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.

Onwugbufor also joined all the political parties and their flagbearers that participated in the 6 February 2010 gubernatorial poll that produced Peter Obi as fresh governor of the state.

In the suit, Onwugbufor is contending that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which conducted gubernatorial poll in the state was not properly constituted to organise a lawful poll.

He is of the view that a Lagos Federal high court had already declared the Iwu-INEC as incapable of conducting any election as at the time the poll held.

He is consequently asking the court to void the purported gubernatorial poll which produced Peter Obi as the new governor of the state.
