ABUJA — Pioneer  Youth Leader of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Gombe State and Coordinator of the Yar’Adua/Jonathan Coalition in 2007, Alhaji Abubakar Muazu has cautioned Acting President, Goodluck Jonathan to be wary of the antics of northern governors who may want to use him to get prominence.
He said the 19 northern governors had failed the region by their lack of cooperation and that the only thing they had foisted on the region were series of crisis and destruction of lives and property through sectarian conflicts.
He criticized a particular governor (names withheld) from the region whom he said attended both pro-Yar’ Adua, Save Nigeria Group and pro Jonathan meetings, all with the intention of becoming Nigeria’s next President, saying that “never again shall Nigeria have such a man as a leaderâ€.
Fielding questions from newsmen weekend, Muazu said most of them were not loyal to the Acting President, but were forced to identify with him because of the present circumstances.
In his words, “I want our Acting President to know who some of these governors are. They are only after their political interests and not committed to him. They cannot help him because they have failed the nation. He should be careful of their advances”.
Citing the recent Jos crisis as an example of leadership failure across northern Nigeria, Muazu said the crises and many other ones that had occurred in the region spoke volume of lack of cohesion among the governors of the region.
“Tell me what they have done to halt or stop these reccurring bloodbaths. Instead of working together to promote unity, love and ensure political stability, they are busy competing over who becomes the next president or viceâ€, he fumed.
“But the truth is that none of them is qualified and competent to rule this nation because of their antecedents. Just check the human rights compliance in their states and tell me who has performed above average. Just check their democratic credentials and tell us who has tolerance for political opposition among them. Who has helped the youth in his state,”, he asked.
