OWERRI—The contractor handling the Owerri-Aba highway has been directed to ensure quality and timely completion of the project.

The Chief Whip, House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, gave the directive when he led the House Committee Chairman on Works, Mr. Kabiru Jalo, and Uzoma Nkem-Abonta on an inspection tour of some federal roads in the South East geo-political zone.

He was of the opinion that anything short of complete rehabilitation of the badly battered road was unacceptable to the citizens.

Explaining their mission, Chief Ihedioha said they came to critically assess the quality and progress of work  done, and to ensure that the funds appropriated for the purpose in the 2009 budget were accessed before March 31 for the execution of the project.

The firm’s Project Engineer, Mr. Malhab Kuri, promised that the 37 kilometer Owerri-Aba  highway would be completed before December this year and according to specification.
