Plateau Police establish special squad to combat crisis

By Taye Obateru
Jos —  The Plateau State Police Command has formed a special strike squad to respond to the outbreak of any further crisis in any part of the state.

Acting state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, disclosed this yesterday at the passing out of men of the Mobile Police Force who underwent a special training programme.

He expressed concern about the continuous outbreak of pockets of skirmishes in the state and urged the people to put behind them the bitterness and anger arising from the last crisis and allow peace to reign.

He condemned the reported refusal to allow those whose houses were burnt to re-build such houses in some areas, warning that no one had the right to prevent another citizen from re-building his or her damaged house.

Aduba said the men underwent a two-week crash programme in combat craft, general investigation and intelligence gathering to reinforce their operational capacity.

He said three bases had been established for the special squad, two in Bukuru and one at Nasarawa Gwom, which are considered flash points of crisis.

He noted that the security situation in the state had improved tremendously despite pockets of skirmishes in some areas and advised the people against taking laws into their hands in resolving disputes.
