Ngige raises alarm over removal of name from voters register

By  Enyim Enyim

ONITSHA—Former Governor of Anambra State and governorship candidate for the Action Congress, AC, Dr Chris Ngige weekend raised alarm that his name was excluded in the recently reviewed voters register.

Ngige made this known weekend when he visited the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Awka, to inspect electoral materials for Saturday governorship election.

In 2007 when he contested the governorship election on the same platform of AC, his name was conspicuously excluded from the ballot paper.

Speaking to newsmen after a closed door meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioner,REC, Mr Josiah Uwazuruonye, Ngige expressed shock that his name was neither in the new nor additional voters register, even though he duly registered in his ward during the exercise.

“Well, a lot of things have been put in abeyance. My name is not there in the voters register, which is in circulation. The new voters register or  the additional one were not seen. We had requested for it to enable us get them to the various wards in Anambra State because we actually want to do their work for them. We want to sensitize the people ahead of the election, identify their names, numbers and locate their polling stations,” he said.

However, Ngige said the REC after consulting with his officers promised to correct the problem, but he appealed to INEC that it should be quickly done.
